Immaturity has always been a pet peeve of mine, but I think it’s really starting to eat at me. I’m not talking about people who 裝可愛 (pretend to be cute), but more along the lines of people who are selfish.

Let me better define the type of immaturity I’m talking about: Being so self-absorbed that you don’t consider others. It’s not quite selfishness because to me, selfishness is a conscious decision. If you’re doing it unconsciously, then you’re just immature.

Okay, let’s be real. Neither conscious nor unconscious selfishness is a good thing. I’m just saying that a lot of college kids (speaking in generalities here) are sort of just immature brats, and I find this inexcusable.

A relationship of any sort is a two way street. Luckily we have people with big hearts who will be the first to give to others. Though they say and mean that they’re happy to help, I find that this help is often taken for granted. I think I’m just seeing it more and more, happening to many of my good friends. Though they may deny it, I’m sure there is a tinge of resentment every time we feel unappreciated. I’m not the perfect servant leader, because I feel it all the time as well.

I’ll forgive you (maybe) if you’re a middle schooler or younger, but once you expect to be treated like an adult, you sure as hell better start to behave like one. It’s not all about you. What kind of world would we live in if everybody thought this way? I don’t care if you really really wanted to do something, but if you made a prior commitment to someone else, tough luck. Make it right. The world isn’t here to serve just you. Servant leaders are here to serve the world.

Show some appreciation today, and show some appreciation every day. Maybe the world will be a better place.
